Feb-04-04  Master of Sacrifice: Uhhhhh..... is there something I've overlooked here? It seems that Black definitely has a better game after 29... ♖b7.
Feb-04-04  TrueFiendish: 30.c6
Jun-20-06  sneaky pete: Spirited play by Mr. Bird. 23.Bg8+ Kd8 24.Qf7 .. would have been the proper way to finish the game. After 23.Bd7+? Kd8 24.Qb7 .. black (Weiss) could have played 24... Ba6+ 25.Kg1 Bd6 winning.
Apr-04-08  Knight13: Taking advantage of an uncastled king too much.

GrahamClayton: It is unusual to see a master player like Weiss be on the receiving end of a blindfold simul.
Feb-10-10  backrank: <GrahamClayton> You're certainly right, it's even more than unusual, it's simply impossible. It was either not a blindsimul, or it was a different Max Weiss who played here. Someone mixed things up here.

Anyway, in the final position, after 29. ... Rb7, 30. c6 mates in 3. Very pretty.

16. Re1! had also been a pretty move, since it admits Ng3+, but if Black goes for the Rh1, White gets a vigorous, probably winning attack by d4-d5 (16. ... Ng3+ 17. Kg1 Nxh1 18. d5 cxd5 19. Nxd5 Bd8 20. Bxf4).

Correct - this was a game of second round (7 August 1888) played at the 4th B.C.A. Congress in Bradford!
