Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-16-04  Leviathan: Nice,nice... but I still have some doubts about 1.b4: is it only a way to surprise the opponent or there is a stategic idea behind it?

Probably 1.b4 is meant to immediatly start an attack on queenside, but I think that after b4 and a3 the opponent has all the time to take control of the center and get a better position, like in the Polish defense (1.d4 b5)...

Oct-29-08  jkinlay: The position after 23...Rd2 is winning for Black - White has been completely outplayed. Instead of 24...R8d3?, Black should play simply 24... R8d7! (protecting the g7 Bishop as a precursor to the intended 25... f5 and 26..e4), after which White's position deservedly falls apart.

playground player: This is not the way to play against 1.b4!

playground player: Sorry, I should amplify what I mean. Allowing White to play 7.c4 gives him far too much space and firepower on the Queenside. Black should have played b5 earlier, to contest that square. At least that's what most of my opponents do to me, and it's very annoying.

However, 1.b4 is a sound opening: read Yuri Lapshun & Nick Conticello, "Play 1.b4!"
