Sep-21-04  Rowson: Where did black go wrong here? i thought he was winning for a while their.
Sep-21-04  Catfriend: I don't know when black could win... maybe when he pawn-stormed the K-side, he should wait a bit and make a real attack out of it... White's knight-playing is stupendous!
Sep-21-04  Willem Wallekers: With a little help from my computer program: Black playing g4 further damaging White's pawn structure might have been his best chance to win. From move 51 on he should have used his King as an offensive weapon heading for g3. The final mistake was 57. ... Ke7, should have played Kg7 to answer 58. Nf5+ with Kg6 to prevent 60. Nh5 that won a piece.
Sep-21-04  iron maiden: <Catfriend>, welcome back. I saw this game a while ago and thought you might want it in your trapped queen collection: Steinitz vs Chigorin, 1892.
Sep-21-04  InspiredByMorphy: Ive always liked 2.Nc3 in reply to the Alekhines defence. Alekhine himself played it a number of times, and was even defeated by Nimzovich against it.

I agree! If only because your opponent is probably an expert on Alekhine's Defense.
Sep-24-04  Catfriend: Hi <iron maiden>! I'm back, but I don't think I"ll manage being as active as I was half a year ago :-( thanks for the game - it was sweet. Highly recommended for everybody:Steinitz vs Chigorin, 1892
