Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-20-17  thegoldenband: If this is an edited version of my pun, I submitted it as "Don't Forget to Check the Fine, Prins".

Why? Because in the whole game Prins never once puts Fine's King in check (and he doesn't even have a legal check available for the first 27 moves of the game), though in the final position he could throw a spite check in before resigning.

Ah, well.

Aug-20-17  catlover: <Thegoldenband> It would seem that Prins was not a spiteful fellow.

Your pun, as you explained it, does indeed make sense. Had I seen the game with your pun attached, however, I may not have connected the lack of checks by Prins with the "check" in the pun.

But even though it does not have your original wording, congratulations for inspiring the pun for today's GOTD. It brought a smile to my face.

Aug-20-17  catlover: Stockfish suggests 21...Ktb7 instead of 21...h5, and 24...Bf8 rather than 24...a5.

It looks like the pressure on black's position built to the point where 34 g4 made it fall apart.

Premium Chessgames Member <thegoldenband> The editorial change was in the interest of brevity, but to be honest the "check" double-pun went over our heads so we didn't even think of preserving it. It works marvelously anyhow, thanks.
Aug-20-17  ColeTrane: a very fine multi level pun

Domdaniel: <thegoldenband> As Annie and ColeTrane say, great pun. Your original was even better.

Aug-20-17  ChessHigherCat: <thegoldenband> That's like editing the palindrome <"A man, a plan, a canal, Panama"> to be "gender-neutral":

<"A person, a plan...">
