Aug-19-07  xeroxmachine: What seems like an hopeless attack turns out to be deadly. Schelchter is probably my favorite player.
Apr-10-12  optimal play: After 40...Kh8 then 41.Nxg6+ Kg8 42.Qxh7+ Kxh7 43.Nxf8+ looks like the simplest way to finish. The following year they played this same opening, but with opposite colours, and Leonhardt played 7.d4 compared to Schlechter's 7.d3 Leonhardt vs Schlechter, 1906

Honza Cervenka: 30...Bxe4 was much better defense. For example, 31.Ng8 (Of course, not 31.Nxe4?? for 31...Qxe4! ) 31...Rxg8 32.Nxe4 Qd3 and white has nothing for two missing Pawns.
May-02-12  Anderssen99: After: 40. ...,Kh8. 41.Nxg6+,Kg8. 42.Ne7+ (42.Qxh7+ of course wins too),Kh8. 43.Rf4!!,Rf7 (To avoid: 44.Qxh7+,Kxh7. 45.Rh4#).44.Rg4,Qxh4. 45.Rxh4+,Rh7. 46.f7 (The haymaker),Kg7. 47.Rxh7+,Kf8 (Blocking the advance of the pawn but allowing ...) 48.Ne6 mate!!.

I thought a cute finish would have been <40...Kh8 41.Nxg6+ Kg8 42.Qxh7+ Kxh7 43.Nxf8+ Kg8 44.Ne6 Kf7 45.Nd8+>.
