Otherwise Black is pretty much doomed to passivity. Those queen-side pawn advances never achieve anything in such situations. |

A coach driver who entrusted the young David with this message of proposal to David's childhood nurse Clara Peggotty, whom he only met as she came out to bid David goodbye when his hostile new stepfather sent him off to boarding school. The boy had no idea what the message he delivered meant: <'Well. I'll tell you what,' said Mr. Barkis. 'P'raps you might be writin' to her?''I shall certainly write to her,' I rejoined.
'Ah!' he said, slowly turning his eyes towards me. 'Well! If you was writin' to her, p'raps you'd recollect to say that Barkis was willin'; would you?'
