Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-03-15  Marmot PFL: Losing to So seems to have awakened Caruana, who has won three straight.

Not sure if Kramnik lost or sacrificed the exchange. Either way mistakes in time pressure let Caruana end it fast.

Penguincw: Indeed. Kramnik has now lost twice this year with black against Caruana. :|

In the final position, if 39.Ke2, then 39...Qe2# 0-1 (or 39...Qf2# 0-1). If 39.Kc3, then 39...Rc2+ 40.Kd3 Qe2# 0-1 (or 40...Qf2# 0-1).

Jul-03-15  Kaspablanca: Time to look for Kramnik`s worst games with white, this one should be one of his worst loss with white.
Jul-03-15  solskytz: After 17...Qg4 this looks like a -2.87 position as black has the material AND the compensation. Totally hopeless.

That said, white did manage to generate some chances later on.

I didn't understand the idea of 35. Qc3 though, getting the Q to the K-side. I thought that a plan of 35. Rxc5, as the K-side is stabilized for now, threatening a Q-side advance, would put a bit more pressure on black. He could have moved the Q over to the K-side later, if the black R ever left f8, or something.

Time trouble, certainly.

Honza Cervenka: 28.Kd4 with idea Kc5 was interesting possibility. Black Queen is tied to defense of Ph6 and so white King is quite safe.
Jul-04-15  whiteshark: <13. Bxe4> has been a very unorthodox exchange by Kramnik. He is trying to spice up the position. <13. e3> might have been a safer choice, whereas <13. Nxe4 dxe4 14. Bxe4 Qxd4 15. Qxd4 Bxd4 16. Bb2! Rxa1 17. Bxa1 Bg7> would have lead to a handshake pretty soon.

  Honza Cervenka: <saturn2: @whiteshark: 13. e3 looses a pawn c4 : Black takes SxSd2 14: QxSd2 dxc4, 15: bxc4 Bxc4> If 13.e3 Nxd2 14.Qxd2 dxc4 15.bxc4 Bxc4, then 16.Bxe7 Qxe7 17.Rxa8 etc.
Jul-04-15  saturn2: @Honza Cervenka: Right, I missed Bxe7.
Although Black could answer: 16...RxRa1
and subsequently 17 BxQ RxR+ 18 QxR RxB it is not a extremely good trade for black: Getting Bishop and Rock for the queen. Anyway Caruana would win this against me.
