Jan-01-16  garuffa: White whithout a rook and black without f6. Boring of the same old chess?

Penguincw: Hmm, this is the first game I've ever seen where both players give away a piece or pawn at the beginning.

P.S. Prior to today, this game was the oldest game (year) in the database without a kibitz. The now oldest game is also <1800.

jnpope: Source: <Selection of Games at Chess Actually Played by Philidor>, G. Walker, London, 1835, pp29-31.

The concluding note in the source gives:
"The remainder was unfortunately not preserved. Philidor has two minor pieces for the Rook; and, although the denouement is wanting, the game is well worthy of close examination."
