Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-08-09  Chlipchlop: What what what ? Abandon ?
Sep-08-09  Kinghunt: Why did Shirov resign? White certainly has a tough position, but I don't think it's resignable.
Sep-08-09  zatara: !$%#%$@# Marshall..I hate playing against it..but seriously..what happend?

tamar: Resignation looks a bit early, but 29 Qf3 loses a big tempo. After 29...Qg6, initially it looks like White has gained an additional guard for e3 and g3, but the threat is ...Bg4 and ...h3 winning the queen.

So White has no better than 30 Qd1 when Black is the one who has gained attacker on g3 with his queen at g6

Sep-08-09  coastalferg: shirov was in terrible time trouble, the feeling i got was that his flag fell, but i do not know it to be a fact.
Sep-08-09  Aspirador: The game might continue: 30.Qd1 Nxe3 31.Rxe3 Rxe3 32.Nxe3 hxg3 33.hxg3 Rxe3!
Sep-08-09  Hesam7: <tamar: After 29...Qg6, initially it looks like White has gained an additional guard for e3 and g3, but the threat is ...Bg4 and ...h3 winning the queen.>

Now I get it! Thanks.

Sep-08-09  zealouspawn: strong (and probably simplest) is after Qd1, ..Bxf1 followed by taking on e3 a lot, with maybe an hxg3 in there too for good measure--the white position is just crumbling with the king right in the middle.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Aronian winning in the *middle* game?! Will wonders never cease?
Sep-09-09  pulsar: It's nice to see the Marshall winning at top level, despite its recent reputation as a drawing weapon (certainly not what Marshall envisioned when he first played it against Capablanca!).

21... Bh3 was the novelty.

24.Bh1 probably started White's difficulties but it's hard to pin it as the only culprit.

Sep-09-09  waustad: Shirov was also way behind on time at the end. Maybe he just saw what Grishuk did in time pressure in the other game today and had enough.
Sep-09-09  Whitehat1963: Call me blind and crazy, but I just don't see the danger! What the heck does white do if 16...Bf3???????
Sep-09-09  pulsar: <Whitehat1963> 17. Qf1
Sep-09-09  Whitehat1963: Once again, I'm proved both!
Sep-09-09  DUS: <Why did Shirov resign? White certainly has a tough positi on, but I don't think it's resignable.>

Sep-15-09  coolthing76: <Kernel7025> 39..Rh6+ is better than 39..Rxg3 but of course both are winning :)
