Jul-11-09  AgentRgent: <Ulhumbrus: <kamalakanta: so, does 38...b3 win?> It does possibly after 38 Qxc3> White cant afford to get into a rook endgame yet so 38. Rxc3 would be played instead
Jul-11-09  PinnedPiece: <kamalakanta: so, does 38...b3 win?>

What follows 39.Qxc6?

Jul-11-09  Ulhumbrus: 38...b3 <kamalakanta> seems to win eg after 39 Qxc3 Qxc3 40 Rxc3 a4! What does Rybka have to say?
Jul-11-09  OneArmedScissor: <What follows 39.Qxc6?> b2 maybe?

39.Rxc3 b2 40.Rb3[] a4 41.Rb6 Qf6 42.Qc2 Rxe6 43.Rxb2 Re1+ 44.Kh2[] Qf4+ 45.g3[] Qe4 46.Rb8+ Kg7 47.Qb2+ Qe5 48.Qxe5+ Rxe5 49.Ra8 Re2+ 50.Kg1 Re3 51.Rxa4 Rxg3+ = (-0.04) Depth: 21 00:04:43 97012kN

Jul-11-09  dotsamoht: A quick look with Shredder indicated 38...Qf6. Vlad's 38...Qf8 may be even better.

Can he now try ...Qf4+ and ...c2, perhaps?

Jul-11-09  Dionyseus: <Ulhumbrus> <Kramnik may have missed a win by 38...b3! >

I doubt it, my R3 depth 21 analysis didn't show anything special.

Jul-11-09  dotsamoht: The waters still look shark-infested to me... wow... Qxc6 hitting Re8 looks dangerous...
Jul-11-09  Ulhumbrus: Kramnik may have missed a quick win by the move which <kamalakanta> has suggested, the move 38...b3!
Jul-11-09  AgentRgent: <Ulhumbrus: On 38...b3 39 Rxc3 b2 40 Rb3 Rxe6 the black Q supports the b2 pawn and Black threatens 41...Re1+> 41. Rb8+ Kh7 42. Qf2 and the pawn falls.
Jul-11-09  Dionyseus: Analysis by Rybka 3 x64 4CPU:

40...Qb5 41.axb4[] axb4[] 42.Qd4[] c2 43.Qd7 Qb8+ 44.Rg3[] Kf7 45.Qxc6[] b3 46.Qxg6+[] Kxe7[] 47.Qe4+ Kf6[] 48.Qf3+ Ke5 49.Qe3+ Kf5[] (-0.71) Depth: 18 00:02:36 68068kN

Jul-11-09  dotsamoht: Yeah, I don't think 38...b3 gets the job done. This is a very interesting position. Does Vlad have the hammer?

Not according to my engine (Deep Shredder). It also chose 38...Qf8.

Jul-11-09  PinnedPiece: Looks like Jako going to offer Draw by Repetition. Honorable outcome.

kamalakanta: 41...Kh7 and Black still has the upper hand. Black is winning.
Jul-11-09  PinnedPiece: What about Qf1+
42.Kh2 Qb5
Jul-11-09  Bondsamir: Why not Qf8+ then Qb5
Jul-11-09  schroedingers cat: Is Kramnik alive?
Jul-11-09  dotsamoht: <PinnedPiece: Draw by Repetition. Honorable outcome.> Yeah... FOR JAKO! Vlad must find the dagger!

Dangerous. you are putting the Black Queen out of play, on the Queenside. the Black King is too bare.

Jul-11-09  AgentRgent: <schroedingers cat: Is Kramnik alive?> Yes... and No.
