Aug-22-08  Aspirador: 23...Bxd4? was definitely a mistake since 24.Rf1! is basically winning. Maybe 23...Nb2!? but in any case it's interesting that white players return to play the Marshall and actually take the pawn. This also has to do with the fact that more black players recently played a Marshall-like d5!? even in anti-Marshall systems.
Aug-22-08  capybara: <Aspirador>
you put down the wrong move number,it was 33...Bxd4. But that does seem to be where Leko went wrong.
Aug-22-08  Aspirador: Yes, thanks. I meant 33...Bxd4? 34.Rf1!
Aug-22-08  messachess: A little surprising for Leko, though it's 7 moves from the R sac. to the end. Maybe some time pressure prevented adequate calculation--?
Aug-22-08  ajile: Horrible. Black should have an easy draw after regaining his pawn.

Aug-22-08  Smothered Mate: Notyetagm and patzer2 should put this game in their back rank collections.
