Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-26-08  zev22407: Simple chess -Rudolf Spielmann brings all his pieces against black's king and finishes the job.

tpstar: <All available crosstables to this tournament show a win for Duras over Spielmann, so the cg score is probably correct, and the score in the Spence book was most likely opening analysis by somebody who carelessly thought it was the actual Spielmann-Duras game.>

<I submitted the PGN for the alternate score since this game didn't match the score in the Tartakower/duMont book.>

GrahamClayton: 12...0-0 allowed Spielmann to double Duras' pawns with 13. Bf6. 12...Bg5 13. Ng5 0-0 was better, with one variation ending in a draw by perpetual check if White decides to press on with the attack: 12... Bxg5 13. Nxg5 O-O 14. Nxh7 Kxh7 15. Qh5+ Kg8 16. Rh4 f5 17. Qh7+ Kf7 18.   perfidious: <plang>, at first I thought your quote of Pandolfini curious, but I reviewed the game cited in 2018, which was rather less one-sided and turned into a magnificent fight:

Spielmann vs Duras, 1907

Now I am wondering how the discrepancy came to be.

plang: I don't know the answer but one guess is that this "game" was fabricated during analysis of the actual game from the tournament with the same opening that Duras won (that you have attached in your post).
