plang: 11..Nxd4 12 Qxd4..Bc5 would have been good enough foe equality but Ivanchuk decided to play for more with the double edged 11..Ne5!?. 14 Bf4 had been played in Lobron-Toth Biel 1981 (White won); 14 Ng5!? was new (opening is mis-classified - it is a Catalan). Perhaps 17 b3..Nd6 18 Ne5 would have been an improvement with a solis position for White. 19 Rb1? was a waste of time; better was 19 b3..Nd6 20 a3..a5 21 axb..axb 22 Bb2..Ne4 and Black would have been slightly better. 28 g4?! created additional weaknesses; 28 Qa6 was an alternative. The endgame after 30 Qxd4..Qxd4 31 Rxd4..Be6 would have been very good for Black.
