Telemus: This game is from a consultation simul played 28 February 1874 in the Liverpool CC. Steinitz played two games simulataneously. Dufresne consulted with Mr Schull.

The game was published in the Liverpool Albion (date unknown to me) and reprinted in NY Turf, Field and Farm, 3rd July 1874. Additional information taken from Bachmann, vol 2, p 20.

Mar-18-19  Chessist: This is definitely not the German Jean Dufresne. "Amos Burn" by Richard Forster mentions a Liverpool player named Gustav Dufresne.
