.

"G. Ware" is "Preston Ware" (Preston Ware has his own page here) sometimes referred to as "G. P. Ware" or "G. Preston Ware, Jr."

I don't know what the "G" stands for. But the pages can be consolidated.

Honza Cervenka: From move 20 black completely lost the thread of this game. After simple 20...Nxf5 white would have nothing and black with extra piece should win.

MissScarlett: < the Full name are Gary Preston Ware>

Prove it.

Aug-05-21  Z4all: EDOchess notes that Batgirl gives his name as G. Preston Ware.

But the best modern source I could find on him:

http://www.warefamilies.org/2011/10...

gives his as <Preston Ware>.

It also lists his mother's and father's names, explaining the Jr. designation often seen.

Family members also seem to confirm the name. The modern source is good at listing its source, as well:

<Biographical Sketches of Representative Citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Graves and Steinbarger, Publishers, Boston, 1901, page 850>

Bodes well.

Aug-05-21  Z4all: Of course, original sources are preferred, when possible:

MissScarlett: Whilst it's untrue that nobody was called <Gary> before <Gary Cooper> adopted it, it's as good as true. If Ware's first name really turns out to be <Gary>, I'll be a Dutchman's onkel.

MissScarlett: This score differs from the one given in the <Chess Monthly>, vol.iv., March 1860, p.81. Are there two Ware games?
