| Oct-13-09 | | YouRang: A good chess player would play <13...h6> to attack the knight at g5, because that knight can't move (it's the only thing preventing the queen-winning fork, ...Nf3+). A great chess player looks deeper and sees the consequences of taking the knight, opening the rook file with mating possibilities if g3 is weakened. The difference between the two is worth a spectacular queen-sac mating combination. :-) |

I grovelled out of it with 5...Qf6 with the crude threat of mate; he castled; then 6...Nd6 and rather than play 7.Nxh8 Nxc4 and I should eventually win that knight on h8, he played 7.Nxd6+ Bxd6 and I was doing surprisingly well. |
