Feb-10-05 | | MUG: "You ch ch choose me, and there's a picture of a train!" Sorry, but had to get in my two cents worth! |

Feb-10-05 | | admiralnemo: i think i can speak for all of us when i say:
LOL!! |
Feb-10-05 | | MUG: Talking of the Simpsons - didn't Deep Blue make a appearance in one episode?? Or did I imagine this (which is very possible!). |
Feb-14-05 | | DP12: Actually, <Jaymthegenius> I have checked everything I said about Najdorf with the books and it is all correct. but about Dragon I could be wrong. However, the 3 Anand-Kasparov games was 10 years ago and if you were not aware of that "wrinkle" maybe your judgement on the current status of the opening is not all that good. Consider the following twist to the lines you mention which featured the famous Miles-Sozin variation after the normal move order to reach this position is 9 Bc4 Bd7 10.0-0-0 Rc8 11.Bb3 Ne5 12.h4 12...h5!? recently the best guys play 12.Kb1!? check it in the database you will see that black has not solved his problems. |
Feb-14-05 | | OJC: < MUG > Maybe you're thinking of Futurama. Deep Blue was featured in an episode with Al Gore. It kept offering chess advice in non-chess situations which turned out to be pretty funny. |

Feb-18-05 | | Jaymthegenius: I got my girlfriend Hiarc's 9.0 for Valentines day, I just think that Hiarc's has a very cute style of possitional play suited for a girl (also known for aggressive attacking abilities, so is also suited for a man in that respect.) here is some knowledge of the engine
The latest version 9.0 of the program has been enhanced and extended in many ways, particularly in terms of implementing concrete chess knowledge and positional learning. With the improved search function, it's now possible to assess positions using new positional criteria such as “typical pawn structures”, “long term plans” and above all “safety of the king”. A better selection of variations provides a greater search depth, enabling Hiarcs 9 to impress by its sharp powerful play against the enemy king as well as its better understanding of endgames, even with unbalanced material. http://www.hiarcs.com/pc_hiarcs_9_0... |

Feb-18-05 | | azaris: <Hiarc's has a very cute style of possitional play suited for a girl (also known for aggressive attacking abilities, so is also suited for a man in that respect.)> "Just when I think you've said the stupidest thing ever, you just keep talking." Why should women play positionally and men aggressively? |
Feb-18-05 | | RisingChamp: Its highly ironic that this ridiculous generalization was made on a Judit Polgar page.Lucky girlfriend......I couldnt think of a more romantic present than Hiarcs 9. |
Feb-19-05 | | Jaymthegenius: <Azaris: Why should women play positionally and men aggressively?> It isn't that it SHOULD be that way, just as a general rule it IS that way (from my experience, anyway's) |
Feb-19-05
 | | Annie K.: <azaris: <"Just when I think you've said the stupidest thing ever, you just keep talking.">> ROFL!!! Thanks for the laugh, <azaris>! :D BTW, could you please add to your writeup of the UCCCT results in your profile a list of the members who have different handles on the two sites (and what those handles are)? :) |
Feb-19-05 | | Jaymthegenius: And how is it irony? Judith Polgar is quite a strong possitional player ( just look at this game! (though I can't recommend castling in this game due to the open g-file and b-file, prefering 20...e5 instead, and doesnt 21...exd5 free the bishop? Still, black had an advantage against deep blue for a while)
There are exceptions, however to castling in bad spot's See my game at
http://www.chess21.com/club/games/v... for information
The backwards pawn after 22...f5 is well protected (but this limits the bishop considerably to a defense) 24...e5 gains space. Though this evaluation may be meaningless since I have gone onto Yahoo! And lost to a 1320 rated player, (had an outragious winning streak, must be an actual master new to that site!) |

Feb-20-05 | | DP12: My experience playing women in the US is that they play very powerful attacking chess reasonable positional chess but very poor defensively. At least this is my impression playing and watching women like Anna Hahn,Jen Shahade and Irina Krush. |
Feb-20-05
 | | tpstar: My experience playing beginners is that attention to offense far outweighs defensive technique, period. Otherwise I don't think it's fair to consider women as their own category when it comes to chess, and it's definitely not PC. <RisingChamp> Roses are red/Violets are blue/I love Hiarcs 9/So I got you one too |
Feb-22-05 | | DP12: Why is it PC to have the so called Russian school of chess and not the Women's school of chess |
Feb-24-05 | | Jaymthegenius: I have heard of "english chess school" CD, but why isnt it covered under ECO A section of catalogues? I assume it means teaching english variations and the middlegame strategies in each, and how to fight for a rook and pawn vs. rook and pawn ending (avoiding single and double minor piece endings all togeather, especially bishops of opposite color) |
Apr-22-05 | | martinshortsays: <admiralnemo: i really should stay out of this, but i think that <jaymthegenius> is an underappreciated <comic> genius ;)>
If that's true, He is an amazingly crafted character. Hats off to whoever's behind it. My favorite Jay moment was a couple pages back where he gave a list of openings complete with their results assuming optimal play on both sides. |

Sep-25-07 | | BAG: That computer was sure going after her Rooks |
Sep-25-07 | | not yet a patzer: <BAG> Yes, of a certainty. An obvious Rook Fetish. Did you notice how cool Deep Blue was when it had both or her Rooks skewered? It casually nabbed a pawn as an appetizer on move 38 before finally grabbing her Rook. Deep, indeed. |

 | | perfidious: <jaymthegenius> losing to a girl (master or not) IS embarrassing,> This statement is hilarious, and I guess by that rationale, I should be embarrassed after losing to <Susan Polgar> many years ago, though she's a grandmaster, and a better player than I'll ever be. |
