Oct-25-13  zydeco: Bronstein annotates this game heavily. Black gets the advantage out of the opening: 5.e3 is lackluster and 8.Rc1 'a waste of time.' White finds a good plan with Re4-g4-g3-e3 which provokes ....f5 and weakens the e-pawn. Black should have found a place to play ....Qa2 -- probably on move 25, instead of the simplistic 25....Nc4. White is very close to winning the endgame: 37....Qa5 is a good resource; 39.Re5 would have retained a real advantage.

plang: Keres played 4..c5!? against the Queens Gambit 4 times in this tournament (the other 3 were against 4 Nf3 rather than 4 Bg5) and scored 2 wins and 2 draws. Taimanov avoided the sharp lines starting with 5 cxd which are supposed to be very favorable for White and after 6 exd the game had transposed into one of the main lines of the Panov variation of the Caro-Kann.
