plang: With the knight on c3 5 Bg2 is an inaccuracy as after 6..Nfd7 recovering the pawn is awkward. Bronstein suggests playing it as a gambit with 7 Nf3. After Kotov's 7 e3 White gets his pawn back but he is already slightly worse. With 12..Nd3+ Keres sacrificed a pawn liquidating to a better endgame with two powerful bishops. Still, 12..bxc may have been even stronger. 16..Bf5 was probably a better way to limit White's activity. 25 c4! cleverly exchanged his weak c pawn for the Black a pawn. Kotov declined the repetition with 38 Nc5?! but quickly got into trouble. 43 Rd6! set up a perpetual if Keres tried to win the f pawn ie. 43..f5 44 Rd7+..Kf8 (if 44..Kg6 45 Rd6+..Kf7 46 Rf6+ and 47 Rxf5) 45 Nf6..Rxf2+ 46 Ke1 and White draws. After 43..Ra2 neither player could make progress and the game was soon drawn.
