Mar-03-04  731: "Overall record: Garry Kasparov beat Ljubomir Ljubojevic 12 to <1>, with 14 draws"

Yeah.. and this was the <1>.. with the staunton-system..!

Jan-07-05  Jaymthegenius: 9.b4 is an excellent improvement on this system! As for me I would be afraid of the open b-file leading to the bishop, but here it serves an awsome purpose.
Aug-19-06  alaTurca: It is interesting that such a beautiful win by Ljubo over Kasparov has attracted so little kibitzing.

The guy here simply outplays Kasparov! Kasparov's pieces are in disorder and he ceases to exist on the queenside.

May-01-08  percyblakeney: <It is interesting that such a beautiful win by Ljubo over Kasparov has attracted so little kibitzing>

Probably because it was from a blitz event, Kasparov won it and this was the 18th of 24 games he played.

May-01-08  JuliusCaesar: Blitz game or not, Ljubojevic plays forcefully on the q-side – his only chance for an advantage. To have a chance as Black, you need to generate k-side counterplay as quickly as possible before you're overrun, even if it means sacrificing material. Kasparov – the master of active play – comes up short this time.
May-01-08  percyblakeney: <Blitz game or not, Ljubojevic plays forcefully on the q-side>

Indeed, Ljubojevic played well, and this win must have felt good since he went from the long list of people to never have beaten Kasparov to the short list of those that have beaten him (if only in blitz). As a comparison he has 14 wins against Karpov, most of them with classical time controls.

Jul-31-08  T.Ramesh: Ljubojevic in general is a tactical player...

Eggman: Ljubojevic has never beaten Kasparov. Blitz doesn't count. A blitz game can be worth looking at, but to emphasize the results in a format in which a 1300 player might beat a 2300 player is just goofy, and just adds to the confusion that already afflicts organized chess.
Dec-16-08  slomarko: when will CG insert an option to filter out blitz games?
Feb-14-09  KingG: They need to be clearly marked as blitz before they can be filtered out. I don't know why the people who submit the games don't provide that information in the PGN heading.

Nonsense blitz doesnt matter when your facing Kasparov who beats an israeli team of 2600+ in simuls...... his level is still remarkably high.

I have 1500(aloth better than that but havent played enough) and I beat a 2279 player(2200+ elo) guy in blitz and I doubt he would lose blitz games against players under 2000 even if its just for fun.

Aug-03-13  znsprdx: good point about CG not classifying or indicating type of game BTW more up to date check this out - Ljubojevic's reflections on Chess:

3 part Interview with Grandmaster Ljubomir Ljubojevic - "Chess now and then, through the prism of technology, physics and philosophy"

Nov-27-15  Howard: Just read on Wiki that Ljubo has "beaten" Kasparov. My first thought was, "Oh?!? When the hell was that?"

Oh, it was this "game" when it happened. Too bad Wiki didn't state that it was a blitz game.
