Oct-29-13  zydeco: 15.e4 and 16.Bb1 seem pointless. Why not 15.Bb2?

plang: Earlier in the tournament Taimanov played 13 d5 against Euwe (Black won); 13 Nxe5 was new but seems completely harmless. 16 Bb1?! would have been effective if it could be followed up with f4 but since that wasn't possible 16 f3 would have been more logical. 21 Rd2? was an oversight overlooking Black's reply. In response to the dual threats of 23..Rxd2 and 23..Nd3 White gave up a pawn and obtained a position with opposite color bishops but Black's pieces were more active and White had weak pawns on c4 and a3. Bronstein pointed out that Black could exchanged queen with 31..Qxd2 32 Bxd2 as long as he doesn't take the c-pawn immediately; ie. 32..Kf8 33 Be3..b6 34 Bf4..Ke7 35 Bb8..Kd7 and if 36 Bxa7? then 36..Kc7 wins the bishop.
Nov-22-17  Nikolemo: I thought 27...Rxd5,following,Re2 wins on the spot.
Nov-22-17  Nikolemo: 23...Rxd5 I mean
Nov-22-17  cunctatorg: The one and only win of Alexander Kotov against Efim Geller; Zurich Candidates 1953...
