Jun-21-05  6.Be3: Wilhelm: 1. (any) c5

Wilhelm: what special line would you chose after:
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3

Jun-21-05  Jack Kerouac: To anyone out there:Currently have the Novag Saphire rated approx. 2345 at top level.Any thoughts on or experience with this computer? I find it pretty hard to beat at the higher levels. Draws seem to be my best results.
Jun-21-05  Montreal1666: <jahhaj: <Montreal1666> On playchess.com recently GM Yasser Seirawan said he would be helping Mickey in this match.>

That's good news. Seirawan was involved in Kasparov-Deep Blue match. Is Seirawan still in good terms with Kasparov?

Is anyone else helping Adams?

Jun-21-05  Permanent Brain: I think Adams can score one win, two draws, three losses. What are your predictions?
Jun-21-05  nikolaas: <Catfriend> If it's freeware, I'll be willing to let it participate in my championship. At this moment there' a tournament going on. Amyan and GNU Chess are the favourites.
Jun-21-05  Knight13: How strong is this computer called Hydra? What's its rating?
Jun-21-05  ahmadov: I believe it is stronger than Deep Blue and Fritz
Jun-21-05  nikolaas: <Knight13> It's very strong. I estimate it's rating to be around 2750, though I don't know or this is accurate.
Jun-21-05  Wilhelm: Then if Adams is Heracles, Seirawan must be his nephew Iolaus, and all we need is the burning firebrand to scortch Hydra's necks! ..
Jun-21-05  Montreal1666: <nikolaas:> Do you have experience with the Linux version of Gnu Chess?
Jun-21-05  nikolaas: <and all we need is the burning firebrand to scortch Hydra's necks! ..> Sounds like a nice name for a new variation; fear the firebrand!
Jun-21-05  charms: Ah, members who know the Myths of the Ancient Greeks... chessgames, could you add this to the reasons to become chessgames-member?
Jun-21-05  nikolaas: <montreal1666> No, all the programs I use are for windows. (Blame me...)

Jun-21-05  WD Richter: Hello friends!
Jun-21-05  Permanent Brain: In Bilbao (Oct. 2004), a previous version of Hydra scored 3.5-0.5 against top grandmasters. Only Topalov managed to draw. OTOH, Fritz achieved the same score, running on a standard notebook. But Hydra is undoubtedly capable of 2700+ performances against human GMs, when they are not supported by comps. But against comp+human teams, Hydra could not qualify for the finals (best 8) in a big online tournament, recently.
Jun-21-05  Wilhelm: <6. Be3: Wilhelm: what special line would you chose after: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3>

2...e6! so that 6. Be3 will not be such a strong move ;)

Jun-21-05  nikolaas: wish me all success, I have to go for a very difficult exam (analysis). Enjoy the game!
Jun-21-05  Lord.Dracula: But in Bilbao the participants had to prepare for 4 different computers while Adams focusses on just one.
Jun-21-05  TIMER: Adams would be happy with a draw with black this first game, and settle into the match.
Jun-21-05  Gazman5: Game on!
Jun-21-05  Montreal1666: The other thing is this is a new version of Hydra. The processing power is higher but they still have bugs in the program so there is hope for Adams.
Jun-21-05  DanRoss53: Choosing the Petrov implies Adams is looking for a draw in my opinion...probably a good strategy with the Black Pieces.
Jun-21-05  Montreal1666: Petrov sounds good!
Jun-21-05  Dionyseus: When will the Kasimdzhanov-Toolbar match start?
