Chess Game Collections
[what is this?] --*-- [what is this?]

  1. 10 instructive games (according to I. Chernev)
I looked for 18 of the 62 games from his book, but 8 of them are not on this website. <a href="User: uglybird">uglybird</a> has the other <a href="Game Collection: The most instructive games of chess ever played">44 games in the book</a>.
    10 games, 1885-1950

  2. Game of the day. and/or puzzle of the day.
It is self evident what this is.
    This website has its own
    <a href="Game of the Day Archive">archive</a>.

As of 8/26/4 also puzzles of the day.

    28 games, 1851-2004

  3. Long games (72+). Short games (28-)
Since I am limited to eight collections, I combined these two in order to create another collection. About Half the games in the database (144,000) are 37 moves or less. Only 3% of the games are at least 74 moves. About 25% are 28 or less moves.
    27 games, 1560-2004

  4. old games. odd games. and other games
I am interested in the history of chess. The title of this collection has evolved. I added odd games and later other games, because I am not allowed to create any more collections.
    22 games, 1560-2003

  5. Player of the day games
I will pick one game for the player of the day.
    40 games, 1905-2004

  6. Popular games
Twelve most popular games at chessgames
    The ones in most collections.
"The Ten most famous chess games" from "Chess for Dummies"

So far only 14 games total. Many of the top ten were also among the top twelve at this site.

    14 games, 1851-1999

  7. Underpromotions.
Underpromotions are one of the really interesting variations in the game of chess.
    5 games, 1870-2003

  8. Various openings
I am going to try to explore different openings and provide a game for each one. Some, if not most, of these will be the 'opening of the day'. The games are usually the opening of the day, but some (like 8/18) were found using the opening of the day and then the opening explorer which looks for positions, these positions can be arrived at in a game with a different opening.
    50 games, 1848-2004
