| 101 games, 1918-2012 - King's Indian Defense
My favored response to <1. d4> The <King's Indian Defense> is not for the faint of heart. Sharp, cut and thrust play is often called for and material sacrifice is common-place in Black's attack on the White king.

All inclusive, good games.

| 99 games, 1920-2021 - Pawn Endgames
The most elementary of chess positions. All things being equal, every position must be judged in relation to the pawn ending. Important concepts in these endgames include <king activity> <opposition> <triangulation> along with <zugzwang> <pawn breaks> <passed pawns> <square of the pawn> and <promotion/under-promotion>. Queen endings can also arise from close pawn endings when both sides promote.

The most aesthetically pleasing checkmates/checkmate combinations.
|
| 101 games, 1851-2015 - Queen Endgames
Always complicated and interesting. Passed pawns are a big threat and perpetual check always looms.
|
| 49 games, 1911-2018 - Rook Endgames
Rook endings have an elegance to them. Whether supporting a passed pawns advance from behind, cutting off an enemy king or gobbling up pawns on the 7th rank rooks can make their presence felt. Often mating combinations can turn up surprisingly as well.

| 101 games, 1890-2019 - Sicilian Defense
<1. ...c5> My preferred response to <1. e4> The <Sicilian Defense>, in all flavors of variation, is sharp, dynamic and complicated.
