- QGA: Ericson Variation
The Ericson Variation, 3...b5, is named after correspondence player Arne Ericson. It is considered incorrect by theory. Black wastes time by not developing a piece and weakens the a8-h1 diagonal, in particular the c6-square becomes a target. In return Black often gets a passed pawn or two on the queenside but this has proven to be insufficient in both theory and practice. Note: the main line often arises from the Slav Defense.
