Millionaire Chess (Blitz Tiebreaks) 2016
Compiled by Tabanus
--*--

After seven rounds of the Millionaire Chess (2016) open tournament, the four best players would advance to the "Millionaire Monday" knock-out rapid on October 10th. Gawain Jones was directly qualified, but second place was a tie between five players (of which only three could advance). A blitz round robin tiebreak (this page) was therefore necessary. The venue was Harrah's Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. The time control was "G/7 d/3".

1 2 3 4 5 =1 Cordova * ½ 0 1 1 2½ =1 Zhou ½ * ½ ½ 1 2½ =3 Swiercz 1 ½ * 0 ½ 2 =3 Mamedov 0 ½ 1 * ½ 2 5 Xiong 0 0 ½ ½ * 1

Swiercz and Mamedov tied for third place and had to play two additional "G/5 d/0" tiebreak games. Swiercz won both games (Swiercz vs R Mamedov, 2016 and R Mamedov vs Swiercz, 2016), so that Cordova, Zhou and Swiercz joined Jones for the event final - the Millionaire Chess (Knock-Out Rapid) (2016). Mamedov and Xiong next played the last two rounds of the open (the final result of which see http://www.millionairechess.com/mc3...).
