0 Corus / Wijk Aan Zee / Tata Steel index
Compiled by gauer
--*--

This collection is designed to be a placeholder of working notes of (recent) sections of the Corus series which I have come across, mainly since about year 2000 onwards, and might perhaps also be added to Game Collection: 0 Tournament Index in the future (trouble with this and the Havana Capablanca memorial series though is that there are many sections, and the number of sections or section cut-offs (can) change from year to year - some the highest are usually swisses; some lower ones get into open group sections, and I have yet to pick a naming convention throughout).

Corus Group A (2000) , Game Collection: 2000 Corus (Group B) (66/66 games present), Game Collection: 2000 Corus (reserve group) (152/153 games present) - http://www.theweekinchess.com/html/... provides details about crosstables, among many other internet news reporting sites.

Game Collection: Wijk aan Zee Corus 2001 and Game Collection: 2001 Corus (group B)

Game Collection: Wijk aan Zee Corus 2002 (by User: suenteus po 147 who has also collected some other Corus years before 2000), Game Collection: 2002 Corus (group A) (all 45 games in this section are present), Game Collection: 2002 Corus (group B) (all 66 games in this section are present). Also, http://ratings.fide.com/tournament_... and http://ratings.fide.com/tournament_... start to record the results on their site in this year for the latter 2 sections (didn't look for the page of the top group yet on FIDE).

Corus Group A (2003) (includes both sections above as one tournament id page).

http://www.tatasteelchess.com/histo...

Corus Group A (2004) , Game Collection: 2004 Wijk Aan Zee (Group B) (all 91 games present), Corus Group C (2004) (all 91 games present, and I believe this was the debut of Magnus Carlsen in this particular tournament series - he and a couple of others moved into their B group next year).

User: Tabanus also has a good alternate naming suggestion: "Event: Hoogovens in the period 1938-1999 (with Beverwijk as site before 1968 and Wijk aan Zee after), then Corus 2000-2010 and Tata Steel 2011-2015. " - Biographer Bistro (kibitz #10343) (3rd April, 2015). Not a bad idea, either - but my line of thought is how easy it would be to find the (open, or A, or B, or C)th group of the nth congress of the (annual, in this case Corus / Wijk Aan Zee / Tata / Hoogovens) tournament, even though the city venue for some rounds or years may have changed slightly. Would a user using Tournament Index "_____" know to use Corus or Tata for searching in certain years, to seek the previous or next congress of the series?! If tournament search can bring up the most relevant others nearby when they try "Corus B 2010" in that search bring up "Tata steel 2011 (open)", "Tata steel 2011 B", "Corus 2009 A", "Corus 2009 B", etc in an order or relevancy similar to <that> particular hierarchy? That's <my> only major qualm with choosing a consistent <congress> name throughout tournament years, but if the search function there can be programmed to not care so much about that, then I guess I wouldn't have so much of a problem with the Tabanus convention for this congress series.

Corus Group A (2005) , Game Collection: 2005 Corus (group B) (all 91 games are here), Game Collection: 2005 Corus (group C) (87/91 games are here).

Corus Group A (2006) , Corus Group B (2006) , Corus Group C (2006) (this is the first year (and one of the few tournaments in the tid index, too (!!)) - where one can navigate between sections by using the upper/lower buttons under the banner on that page, much like <history of the world championship> uses for next previous navigation).

Corus Group A (2007) , Corus Group B (2007) , Corus Group C (2007)

Corus Honorary Group (2008) (double-round-robin), Corus Group A (2008) , Corus Group B (2008) , Corus Group C (2008)

Corus Group A (2009) , Corus Group B (2009) , Corus Group C (2009)

Corus Group A (2010) , Corus Group B (2010) , Corus Group C (2010)

Tata Steel Group A (2011) , Tata Steel Group B (2011) , Tata Steel Group C (2011)

Tata Steel Group A (2012) , Tata Steel Group B (2012) , Tata Steel Group C (2012)

Tata Steel Group A (2013) , Tata Steel Group B (2013) , Tata Steel Group C (2013)

Tata Steel Masters (2014) , Tata Steel Challengers (2014) (was there a group C for this year, or did it go into the open swiss from there)

Tata Steel Masters (2015) and Tata Steel Challengers (2015)

Now that the tid page for "Corus C, 2004" is also a tid, editing the collection intro does not affect the shape of the contents of tournaments nominated after 2000 or 2001. The biography admin editor panel is turned off for the tid page, but it displays the content of the voted-on collection (which can now be left empty, if filled with notes, by accident) and the tid contents do not change according to a cid update.

In the case that I decide to leave a collection page for nomination blank, I may insert things that I find here that are relevant (like draft versions of cross-tables) which I might add later to the admin editor panel (ie as they would appear for collections before 2000).

My intention is to use the congress (as opposed to tournament intro) headers, like this one, sparingly, and I reserve the right to free up space by deleting a congress or tournament or tournament section page from my own collection set.

However, I also plan to leave the collection ids alone, if they are apparently a useful part of a previous/next/top/lower button to another part of a congress navigation re-direction. This could be subject to change, if the post-2000 admin editor pane allows me to ater edit a cid button into a tid button, if a cid gets promoted to the relevant tid page/button and/or if the tournament section just seems interesting enough to keep as a collection of my own (subject to not hogging up so much cid space for my own preofile; I'm supposed to be limited when I'm not a premium user).

Navigating a tournament database is hard work, and this is the start of a plan to navigate through sections and/or years of some of my favorite congresses, if not as a formal method (like Chessgames Editor Guide provides), then perhaps as an informal idea for a template to link congresses and qualifier events from one tournament to the next tournament ladder hierarchy ladder together to another.
