Dortmund Sparkassen (1999)

The 27th Dortmunder Sparkassen Chess-Meeting took place in the Dortmunder Opernhaus (Theater, Schauspielhaus) in Dortmund, Germany 10-17 July 1999. Rest day: July 13. Games started at 2 pm local time. Organizers: Dortmund city, Stadtsparkasse Dortmund and Schachfreunde DO-Brackel. The young Hungarian Peter Leko won with 5/7, half a point over future world champion Kramnik. This was Leko's first elite tournament victory.

The Masters tournament (10-player round robin, Category X) was won by Eckhard Schmittdiel ahead of Zoltan Varga, both with 6/9. The Open A Swiss tournament was won by 17-year-old Olaf Wegener with 8/10.
