"Vencerá quien primero anote en su score cinco partidas ganadas (con exclusión de tablas). Las condiciones esenciales son : 20 movimientos por hora, y jugarlos martes, jueves y sabados, de 8 á 11 de la noche, continuándose en el subsiguiente día, aquellos juegos pendientes que no hubieren podido ser resueltos definitivamente. Apuesta: $25 oro americano de cada lado. Testigos: los señores Dr. A. Reyes Gavilán y Ramón Pardo García Santamarina, al último de los cuales llamamos cariñosamente los ajedrecistas aquí residentes: el simpático vencedor del vencedor de Bardeleben (ó sea Walbrodt)."(1)
* "Four games had already been played (two draws and two losses by Mr. Marquez Sterling), when he had to leave suddenly for Washington, on account of having been appointed private secretary of Mr. Gonzalo de Quesada in everything concerning the representation of Cuba in the Universal Exposition of Paris. As a result, he was forced to resign the match, declaring us the winner."(2)
