Introduction
New York State's annual midsummer meeting of chess players will command the attention of the chess loving public during all of next week, when the thirteenth gathering of its kind under the auspices of the New York State Chess Association will take place at the Murray Hill Hotel, on picturesque Murray Isle, of the Thousand Islands group. (1)
The Secretary of the New York State Chess Association has just issued the official circular outlining the full programme, which will be followed during the week of the annual midsummer meeting, July 16 to 21. Four events will occupy the members and visitors during the week, as follows:
First—An open tournament for master players, entries to which will be received from members of any State chess association. Entrance fee $2. First prize, $40 and other prizes in proportion to the number of entries.
Second—Tournament limited to players of first class amateur strength. Entrance fee $2. First prize, "The Farnsworth Cup." Other prizes in proportion to the number of players.
Third—Second class tournament. Entrance fee $2. First prize $15. Other prizes in proportion to the number of players.
Fourth—Third class tournament. Entrance fee $2. First prize, $10. Second prize, the "Wright Cup."
All who expect to play are requested to bring chessmen and boards. (2)

Masters' tourney—First prize, F. J. Marshall of Brooklyn; second, O. Roething of Manhattan; third, L. C. Karpinski of Ithaca, N. Y.
First class—First prize, C. P. Weeks of Long Island City; second and third (tie), G. N. Cheney of Syracuse, N. Y., and D. F. Searle of Rome, N. Y.
Second class—First prize, F. A. Dixon of Oswego, N. Y.; second, Livingston Stone of Cape Vincenet, N. Y.; third, F. T. Watson of Perch River, N. Y.
Third class—First prize, W. Scripture of Rome, N. Y.; second J. F. Quigley of Long Island City.
The Farnsworth Cup and the Wright Cup constitute the first prize in the first class and the second prize in the third class, respectively. The other prizes are all cash prizes. (3)
