Jul-09-23  thebully99: Carlsen's 15/18 is his new personal best, exceeding his 14.5/18 in 2017 Leuven and equaling Firouzja's St Louis score. He finished 2 pts ahead of 2nd place, not as dominant as his 4.5 pt margin in Leuven.

Not sure what his TPR is and how it compares to his past performances in blitz

Yes, it's a miracle he survived with a total of miserable 14 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. He must have suffered terribly that day winning the tournament with only 3½ p. ahead of no. 2 and depositing $ 40,000 on his account.

At some point some rich dude is going to put up a <big>, multimillion dollar prize fund for MC to take on the present FIDE world champion, in a 16 game match, classic time controls. Of course it won't be for the actual title because such a match would take place outside of FIDE's jurisdiction. Nonetheless, the entire sporting world would know that the winner would be the <real> world champion.

Make it so. Somewhere out there is a billionaire hedge fund manager who is a chess enthusiast. Maybe Bill Gates. Someone has to show some balls and show up...

About Carlsen being a <semi-retired multimillionaire at age 35> I think Carlsen is a very poor man compared to other people in popular sports. Soccer, baseball, golf, basketball, football, tennis and so forth. Not speaking of people in the entertainment business: Hollywood actors, popstars etc.

The best in those fields earn X times as much as any best chess player in the world. Actually, there is no other reason than popularity of the sport that a mediocre soccer player with an IQ of 101 earning 10 times as much as the ever intelligent people in the chess elite.
