Apr-02-13  cro777: The next Chessgames Challenge: Battle of the Brains IV (Bob 4), the computer-prohibited team game.

<chessgames.com>: New topic:

We have a Battle of the Brains coming up shortly, and if we just swap colors from Bob3 I'm sure it would be great fun, but here's another idea: let's make this one "East vs West".

"Team West" would be anybody in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, and so forth.

"Team East" would be the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia ... basically any place that isn't "West".

The logistics are a little tricky ... Anyhow, assuming it could be arranged effectively, we think it would be a great match-up which might stoke some rivalry in a good way.

Apr-03-13  zsoydd: Today I went for a walk from home 1 mile to the South then 1 mile to the East and then 1 mile to the North - arriving back home. Where would I belong to?
Apr-03-13  AgentRgent: <zsoydd> I hope you took a very warm coat with you on your walk... ;)
Apr-03-13  cro777: <zsoydd: Where would I belong to?>

"You're on your own and the road is long
You'll do what it takes
Just finding a place
where you belong!"

Apr-03-13  cro777: <chessgames.com>: We don't have to call the alternate assignment "BOB" -- in fact it's probably best we don't -- we would call this "the East vs West Challenge" and then the next time we have a computer-prohibited match it would be BOB-4.

Before anybody gets their hopes up, this whole East-West idea is just a consideration. We may very well just go ahead with BOB-4 in the normal fashion and save the East-West Challenge for some other day.

cro777: <chessgames.com>: We don't have to call the alternate assignment "BOB"

< -- in fact it's probably best we don't -- we would call this "the East vs West Challenge">

YES!! It would be Ceri & DC east vs the west with DL etc.

and pls let everyone use all the help they can get including engines.

let the battle of the century begin!

Apr-04-13  kwid: We would need to see if the west can compete successfully against: Ceri,DcGentle, zsoydd,g.mueller,DPLEO,Hugin etc.

It would be interesting to see a line up for both teams. I could play for Austria or Canada if needed. Are Tiggler, ajile, parmetta,Boomie western players?

Apr-04-13  zsoydd: Since the winning chances in chess strongly depend on the energy invested in the move selection I suggest to consider the E=mc2 rule for the composition of the teams (i.e. both should have nearly equal weight).

zsoydd = 90 kg (target = 314.159 kg - easy to remember!)

Apr-06-13  Hugin: <kwid: We would need to see if the west can compete successfully against: Ceri,DcGentle, zsoydd,g.mueller,DPLEO,Hugin etc.>

Count me out, i've done my last team play on this server.

Well, <kwid>, I am western now. Ex-patriot, like you perhaps, but definitely Western now (Arizona - can't be more "Western" than that).

Not much of a match for some of those European CC experts you mentioned, however. Regrettably, <Hugin> declines the chance to befuddle the other side.
