Feb-28-04 | | uponthehill: That's the best Polish chessplayer of today- he's 8th at Aeroflot 2004. |
|
Feb-28-04 | | Maroczy: uponthehill: When are the next Polish Championships? Also, I would like to subscribe to a Polish chess magazine. I live in New England so it may cost a bit. I would appreciate any links. By the way, how old is Markowski? |
|
Feb-28-04 | | uponthehill: Hello Maroczy,
Markowski was born in 1975.
Polish championships will be held probably in autumn. In Poland there are 3 chess magazines:
1. "Przeglad Szachowy" ("Chess Review"):
Good contents, but always is published with a great delay. They also repeat mails longly. www.szach.pl/agencja64
agencja64@szach.pl
Agencja 64 PLUS
ul. Ogiñskiego 67/5
66-400 Gorzów Wielkopolski
2. "Panorama Szachowa" ("Chess Panorama")
Average contents, quite actual
www.penelopa.szachy.pl
penelopa@szachy.pl
ul. Kazimierzowska 52
02-570 Warszawa
3. "Szachista" ("Chessplayer")
I don't read it because it has very limited edition (I think it is only available in subscription) www.szachista.pl - the only information about them I posses. ----
If you need translation of e-mails to them from English to Polish, just send me them in English, and I will send them back to you translated. I'll gladly help, cheers |

Apr-03-04 | | Kandelabr: Polish Championships (Men): 24th of April- 7th of May. I am sure online live transmissions will be available, as it was in recent years. |
|
Apr-03-04 | | Maroczy: Kandelabr: I wonder how Macieja will do, he will be playing in the FIDE championship cycle in June. He seems to have bounced back at the recent 75th Petrosian Memorial.I still think he's capable of excellent chess. |
|
Apr-03-04 | | Kandelabr: Although Macieja has belonged to Polish elite for several years and even won European Championships in 2002, he has never been champion of Poland. I do not think he will succeed in this year. Markowski seems to be at his peak. |
|
Apr-03-04 | | Maroczy: Kandelabr: I'll bet you dwa golombki that Macieja wins:) |
|
Apr-28-04 | | uponthehill: Polish Championships are to watch on http://www.zagraj.pl/chess/mp2004/i... . They will play till 7th May. After 4 rounds Jakubiec is first (3 pts). |

 | | WTHarvey: Here are some puzzles from Tomasz's games: http://www.wtharvey.com/mark.html |
|
Sep-08-05 | | atripodi: Can anyone explain why Markowski almost always starts out with 1.g3, but almost always turns it into a more orthodox opening like the English or KIA by move 2 or 3? If he wants to get into one of these, why not 1.Nf3 or 1.c4? In any case, his unusual approach to the opening as well as his success with it at top-level is very refreshing. |
|
Dec-30-08 | | Brown: <atripodi> Not sure if you venture this site anymore, but it seems he plays g3 to get into reverse dragons if black plays e5 (answering with 2.c4, and gets into a KIA, Reti type position if they play d5 (answering 2.Nf3). It's a smart transpositional tool for the opening. |
|
Feb-19-09 | | atripodi: Thanks for the delayed reply <Brown>. It seems like Markowski just likes to play both Reti and English systems, as 1.g3 doesn't restrict either 1...e5 or 1...d5 like 1.c4 or 1.Nf3 would. He also seems to like the weirdness that comes about when neither of these moves (or c5) is played. |

Markowski one of 4 co-winners at the Warsaw Najdorf Festival. He scored 7/9. A last round win vs. the leader entering Round 9 propelled him. https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-t... |
