OVE EKEBJAERG
(born Mar-03-1936, 89 years old) Denmark

In 1987 he became a Correspondence Grandmaster.

In 1960 Ekebjaerg started correspondence chess. He quickly qualified to take part in the European Championships. In 1967 he reached 4th place at the 2nd European Championship. At the 3rd European Championship in 1972 he shared third place. Finally, in 1976, he won the 10th European Championship. For this, the International Correspondence Chess Federation ICCF awarded him the title of International Master in Correspondence Chess.

Ekebjaerg also took part in several finals of the World Correspondence Chess Championship. He reached 7th place at the 9th World Cup in 1977/83 and 12th place at the 16th World Cup in 1999/2004. His greatest success was the vice World Cup at the 14th World Cup in 1994/99, half a point behind the Estonians Tonu Oim. Ekebaerg came second in the Julius Nielsen Memorial 1985/90; the winner was Jonathan Penrose.
