Apr-05-10  wordfunph: after a peak of 2542 in Jan. 2010, GM Rasmussen's rating slid to 2513 in March 2010.

Rasmussen's scalp includes GM Negi Parimarjan.

Troller: Rasmussen has had some mediocre results following his appointment as GM, but seems to be picking up again lately. Currently he has 6/7 at the Politiken Cup and a TPR of 2632, after defeating Vladimir Baklan as Black in just 26 moves in rd 7.

<Rasmussen's scalp includes GM Negi Parimarjan.> His most notable scalp is undoubtedly Wang Yue, although this was a rapid game.

Domdaniel: Allan Rasmussen is playing in New Zealand at the start of 2015. His first-round game was a narrow victory over Richard Taylor.

Richard Taylor: Thanks Dom and Benzol and <chessgames.com> as the tournament is pretty good for a place such as NZ and considering the Australian champs is on there are a number of Australian players, and a lot of young players and 'veterans' like myself. Murray is awarding prizes for upsets, and is selling books...I bought three today (one about the Symmetrical English!)...Hot but beautiful weather. Conditions are good in the tournament.

Today the GMs looked as though they had it all under control. It was an easier day at the office, but no one was a push over.

Don Eade didn't have a bad position against Sukandar but omitted to move his Q out of a pin before launching his attack. He had the right policy to keep it fairly complex but needed care also against the 2400+ player.

There are so many games going on it is impossible to see all the drama and vicissitudes of the terrible and wonderful struggle, the hidden blood and tears, the, the, the....

  moronovich: Hi <Richard>

To get the danish champion shaken an almost running out of time is an achievement !

Good luck for the tournament !

Richard Taylor: Hi <moronovich> especially since I am 66! But I think the opening I chose, which I had planned for other players, as I was sick of the King's English, was a little less common than the most replies to the English. Had he played 1 e4 I may well have been toast...I saw f5 but forgot the Qe6+ trick, otherwise he was in bad time trouble...

I don't think he will ever let me get a chance if I meet him in another Open somewhere! His accent, as I told him, as he was analysing today with Reilly who drew with him, sounds much like some Irish I have heard. He has a deep voice and gets quite excited when analysing which is good, shows he is alive, maybe he and Reilly nipped down the road for a few quick ones before they analysed!

To make up for it I played a terrible game yesterday (black against Macdonald who won well), and a better one today, perhaps my best in this tournament, although it was a draw, it was a long game and a very tense and interesting line of the Scotch (4 knights) against a young English player Burke who played very resourcefully to hold the game...He was closer to my rating.

Thanks for your wishes. I am aiming for 50% or even only 30% as that will be better than coming last in the NZ Champs in 2011...!
