Sneaky: In 1978 Karl Podzielny played 575 games simultaneously in 30.5 hours.  I believe that still stands as some kind of record.

That's an average of 3 minutes, 10 seconds spent on each game! I have no idea what his final result was.

May-16-05  woodenbishop: At the 1966 Havana Chess Olympiad, several masters participated in a simultaneous exhibition of 6,480 boards.

...and he did it for charity.

Sep-10-15  thomastonk: Between 1974 and 1986 he won the German Blitz championship 6 times, and after 21 years he won his seventh title in 2007. His nickname is or was Potz-Blitz. From 2007-2009 he won three German titles in Active Chess.

I saw him often in the 1980s, and at that time he always drunk heavily. Last time I saw him in 2011; during that tournament, the arbiter decided to call an ambulance and she sent him to a hospital. Ad multos annos!

Oct-29-21  ndg2: This guy was an extreme blitz talent, but he could have also easily be a gifted GM if he hadn't fell hard for the booze already at a younger age. Saw him personally in the late 80s, early 90s at a couple of blitz tournaments.

MissScarlett: Who was that German GM from 15-20 years ago who was really hot on ICC? Used to battle Shirov for the top blitz/bullet ratings.
