Dec-28-14  thegoodanarchist: Looks like a KID to me.
Aug-02-15  metatron2: It's strange that Kasparov missed the trivial 11.. Ne5 here.

Also in this blitz game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Em3... around 5:29 it seems like Kasparov missed the trivial Rh5 move (in case I'm not missing something there..).

In both cases Kasparov seemed to think about the moves, but still missed trivial wins that he would have seen "while sleeping" in the past..

He seemed to play well the rest of the game, but the trivial oversights are quite strange..

  FSR: <metatron2> Isn't 11...Ne5 12 dxe5 a free piece?
Aug-03-15  metatron2: <FSR>, sorry, wrong move number, of course I meant <10>.. Ne5

FSR: <metatron2> OK, you are right, it is astounding that Kasparov would miss this old chestnut. <In the identical position> Black played 10...Nde5! and won quickly in the well-known game G Norman vs Vidmar, 1925.

FSR: I blogged about Kasparov's oversight at http://chicagochess.blogspot.com/20....
Aug-04-15  metatron2: Nice blog post <FSR>,

To Kasparov's defence I would say that the game was played with quick time controls (I think it was a blitz game).

Still, its far from explaining how Kasparov could miss such well known trap motif..

There is no chance that he didn't know that trap motif. That motif can result from openings other than that KID variation. I caught a few guys in blitz with that trap motif when playing the 2.. d6 variation against the sicilian Alapin (in the few cases they didn't prevent Bg4 with h3..), here is one example: http://ficsgames.org/cgi-bin/show.c...

So I thought that maybe Kasparov didn't want to finish the game too fast when playing against an 1850 rated player, but there is a small chance that Kasparov would feel sorry for his opponent.. It's probably just (lots of) rust..

BTW, did you look at the link I gave to the other game ? I wonder if Kasparov really missed Rh5 there (instead of taking Bxh6) ? It would be very strange in case that he did, since Kasparov actually lifted his R to e5 before that, and thought for quite some time on that move..
