Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-01-14  luzhin: Short's 28.Bb4 was an ingenious winning attempt, but there was a refutation: 28...Qf7! 29.Qxa6+ Kb8 30.Bc5 Be3!! with an x-ray defence against the otherwise decisive Ba7+. White could play on with 31.Ng5 but then 31...Bxc5! 32.Nxf7 Rxf7 33.Qxc6 Bd4 looks winning for Black. In fact Black might still have been able to draw with 29...Qf7 (instead of 29...c5??) 30.Nc5 Rd4 31.Qxa6+ Kd8 32.Qxc6 Qf3 when it's not clear that White has more than a perpetual.
