Feb-20-04  morphyvsfischer: Now this is what I truly call 'betraying your opening'. Fischer, though actually a big King's Gambit player (the 3 Bc4 line), made his refutation to the 3 Nf3 line in 1960. And now he lets his opening be played against him!? Well, he won...

Benzol: Fischer seemed to revise his opinion of the King's Gambit after his 1961 article and deemed it playable after all. See

Fischer vs Wade, 1968

and Fischer vs Minic, 1968

Btw I think Mott-Smith could have drawn this game.

Feb-21-04  drukenknight: Benzo; yes it looks like he should have had the draw, on move 45 he gets weird with the B.

starting w/ move 45 as move 1, then it should draw something like

1. ... h5
2. Nxf4 Bxc5
3. Nxh5 Ke5
4. Nf4 Bg1
5. Ne2 Bb6
6. Nf4 Bg1
7. h4 Bh2
8. Ng6+ Kxd5
9. h5 Be5
10. h6 Bb2
11. Nf4+ Kd6
12. h7 c5
13. Ke4 c4
14. Ng6 Ba1
15. Kf5 Kd5
16. Nf4+ Kd6
17. Kg6 Bh8
18. Kf7 c3
19. Kg8 c2
20. Nd3 Ba1

Jun-20-08  Helios727: How does white turn the final position into a win?
Jun-20-08  Xeroxx: Black king can only move to g4 there it will be forked.
Jun-20-08  Xeroxx: Sorry, g5 it should be.
Nov-30-14  TheFocus: From a simul in
Chicago, Illinois on March 22, 1964.

Fischer scored +56=11-4.
