Apr-03-25  Justin Flint: Is there a possibility of seeing the Chessgames front page getting modified so that any mention of past events like Timmerman, Nickel, Naiditsch, Akobian, Pogonina, Williams etc, are removed? Is the thematic game still a thing?
Is mentioning a chess Life issue from 2011 relevant in 2025?

  Gottschalk: <Miss Scarlett> or <Susan Freeman>

I'll take advantage of today's GOTD title to say that it's insane to refuse to add GM games to the database.

Even more so when it comes to world champions: three-time world champion Yfan Hou and four-time world champion Anatoly Karpov - who won 4 matches for the title, not counting the one in 1984;

As usual, no justification was given.

It seems to be prejudice against South America, maybe GMs become less interesting when they come to play in the American continent, which is neighboring Africa, and not in that is neighbor of Europe.

P.S. I left the PGNs on the pages of GMs Karpov, Morovic, Hou and Villagra - after having submitted them to PGN Upload

WannaBe: <stevemcd87> I think my analysis is done? I submitted it this morning and when I check during lunch, it was still going.

Now when I go back to look, it only show the one from March 18th, under "Recent Analysis"

So, if analysis' finished, where is the link to the result? Or did it poop out before finishing?

What happened after March 18th (last successful analysis?) why did something that worked, now broken?

We added a <Check Back on Game Analysis> link for running analysis, if the pop-up window was closed. You should be able to resubmit any games you've previously had trouble with and not be charged for previously analyzed positions.
Below is a list of known issues that will be fixed in a couple of days:
- Pop-up window must remain open for game analysis to complete. User must click <Check Back on Game Analysis> after all positions have been analyzed. The page mentions how many positions are left and estimated time of completion.
- Some game analysis gets hung up on the last position. For this, the user must terminate the analysis and resubmit the PGN; they will not be billed twice.
- We will also be adding more logs for better debugging.

Let me know if you run into anymore issues. Sorry for the inconvenience.

MissScarlett: Here's a duplicate case caused by a single extra move: A Jallow vs C Skehan, 2016 and A Jallow vs C Skehan, 2016

Is it possible to do a sweep of the DB to find games (above say 15 moves) which are identical except for a single ply?

Check It Out: Sometime ago, I mentioned the problematic mobile text size and wide variation on CG. Never heard back about any changes, but it seems worse than ever.

The only pages that are consistently viewer friendly are game pages.

Most forums, kibitzers cafe, etc. you have to blow up to a readable size and then scroll left-right. Very annoying.

WannaBe: I've noticed something interesting, started about oh, 3 or 4 weeks ago. Possibly earlier.

(No, it's not the/my rash...)

You know how a blue link turns purple once it's clicked? the "chessforum" link, both in my quicklink bar and the ones at the very bottom of each web page turns blue like 4 times a day.

Is this a new site-side refresh? Because No other links at the bottom of each web page e.g. "Home", "Laboratory", "Profile", or "New Kibitzin" turns blue.

Just curious. And WebMD have not been able to help with this...

Total Jim: it seems that the Opening Explorer is having a problem ...

when seen from the White side of the board, the opening position shows that the database contains 1,818,479 games ...

but ...

when flipped to the Black side of the board, the opening position indicates a database content of 1,799,077 games ...

I'm pretty sure that both values should be the same ...

also ...

the statistics for the available moves are slightly skewed between the White and the Black viewpoints ...

I'm not sure how all of this works behind the scenes, but I'm guessing that a recent update failed to properly run the mysterious "script" that is supposed to bring everything truly up to date ...

best regards ...

I'm sending the 2024 Spanish Absolute Chess Championship games once again. I hope that now the pgn would be totally satisfactory.
