Eggman: Lars Bo Hansen is the player of the day. Never heard of him.
Nov-13-03  skakmiv: Well he is a danish GM.
Nov-13-03  Nova1990: This must be the fate of most GMs rated below 2600. Nobody kibitzes on their page except to ask who they are.

Eggman: I suppose that's true. When there are about 700 GMs in the world, it's kind of difficult to keep track.
Nov-13-03  Larsker: He's the third-highest ranking Danish player at the moment with 2578 ELO-points. http://www.dsu.dk/rating/klub/union...

WTHarvey: Here are some puzzles from Lars's games: http://www.wtharvey.com/hans.html
Jun-04-05  TheSlid: Could a Danish kibbitzer please explain "Bo". I ask because my number2 daughter is often called "Boo-Boo"
Sep-23-05  Poulsen: "Bo" is a well known - but in recent years little used first name for boys in Denmark. Approx. 11.000 danish men/boys carry that name - so do about 10 women/girls.

"Lars" is much more popular, but the use of this name has also been declining in recent years. Approx. 47.000 men/boys has that name in Denmark - making it the 3rd most used.

"Hansen" is the 3rd most used sir-name in Denmark. All of the 20 most used sir-names ends with "-sen", which means "son of" (in danish their is no equivalent of the icelandic "-dottir" meaning "daughter of").

To my knowledge the term "Bo" hasn't any particular meaning - but I will look it up.

Nov-13-05  atripodi: Aagard wrote a few paragraphs about Hansen in (I believe) Excelling at Chess. In it, he says that Hansen's calculating ability is poor for a Grandmaster, but he makes up for it with his positional understanding and depth of strategic thinking. I don't know if/how this could be verified by looking at his games, but it would be interesting to compare his style to that of players known for their calculating ability.
Nov-17-05  atripodi: Also, Hansen wrote a book recently which has received favorable reviews though I haven't read it. Anyone know anything about it?

Troller: Hansen is competing in the World Open again this year after finishing 10th last year. He is bringing his wife WIM Evgenia Pechieva-Hansen and son Martin Hansen, who are both playing as well.
Apr-24-08  BIDMONFA: Lars Bo Hansen

HANSEN, Lars Bo

Nov-30-08  Interbond: Lars Bo Hansen - Aagaard: DEN-ch Tonder (7), 1993
1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Bd3 0-0 6.Nge2 e5 7.d5 a5 8.0-0 Na6 9.f3 Ne8 10.Be3 f5 11.exf5 gxf5 12.f4 c6 13.Qd2 Bd7 14.Rad1 cxd5 15.fxe5 dxe5 16.Nxd5 Be6 17.Nb6 1-0

Hansen is a positional player. I don't how good Aagaard is to calculate, but in this game Aagaard didn't calculate well.

Nov-25-11  wordfunph: "My son jokingly suggested that a more appropriate title was How Chess Games are Drawn."

sleepyirv: <atripodi> How Chess Games are Won and Lost is excellent though I think this mostly because it made me philosophically rethink my play. I am more comfortable in sharp positions where I can attack. Before this book, I was playing quiet positional opens under the impression that's how a "real" chess player would do.

May-20-14  cro777: "Chess or Business – it is all about <Winning The Strategy Game>. In both situations, the strategist has to take into account the actions and ideas of rivals in a fierce battle for <Competitive Advantage>.

In business strategy, much focus is now on big data. Chess World Champion Magnus Carlsen goes the opposite way, seeking Competitive Advantage by avoiding competing on analysis." (GM Lars Bo Hansen)
