Honza Cervenka: Jirka Stocek won the last Czech chess championship in Pardubice 2011. He was also twice the second in 2004 and 2005 (always behind David Navara and in Karlovy Vary, i.e. Carlsbad) and twice the third (2003 in Luhacovice behind Milos Jirovsky and Zbynek Hracek; 2008 in Havlickuv Brod behind Vlastimil Babula and Tomas Polak). This makes him historically the 20th most successful player of individual Czech or Czechoslovak championships since 1905 (together with Jan Foltys). He still has a good chance to improve his statistics in this matter significantly, although Pachman's 7 gold medals or Hort's 6 gold medals plus other 6 silver and 4 bronze are probably unattainable.

Penguincw: Congrats to Jiri Stocek for winning the Czech Olympiad Team Qualification tournament with 7/10, a full point ahead of his nearest competitor.

I guess we'll see him playing for the Czechs come the Olympiad.

Penguincw: As for the Olympiad, he played 4th board for the Czechs. Scored a solid 5.5/9, including a win with black over Wei Yi.
