Aug-01-16  waustad: He's playing in the Trinidad and Tobago IM tournament and he is listed as FIDE for federation. I don't recall seeing that before.
Sep-07-16  sonia91: <waustad> His FIDE card still says "Federation FIDE Licensed". I wonder too what it does mean.

Anyway, these days he is commenting some games of the Olympiads for ChessBase.

Feb-05-17  waustad: He just transferred to the USA federation.

Apr-09-20  wordfunph: <THE DEFINING MOMENT

I was living in Tehran, the capital of Iran, where chess was being rediscovered after being banned in Iran for 10 years. That means the entire city—almost eight million people—hadn’t had easy access to chess for a decade. So when I got interested in chess around age eight, there was only one chess class in Tehran taught by a local chess enthusiast about 90 minutes from our house. He held classes once a week and my dad always was willing to take me. One weekend, however, my dad was ill and said he could not drive me to class. In fact, both of us had sore throats. I started yelling and crying, and I forced my dad to drive me to the class anyway, despite both of us having fevers! (I was usually a calm boy, but we’ll do anything for what we love.) My dad considered it a defining moment, where I showed my deep love for the game.
