"Vor einiger Zeit las ich im Schach Magazin 64, wie der ehemalige Berliner Meister Berthold Koch bei der Schacholympiade in Helsinki 1952 am Spitzenbrett für die DDR auf den Israeli Moshe Czerniak traf. Er verlor, das ärgerte ihn ungemein, aber noch mehr war seine Aufmerksamkeit durch einen israelischen Spieler am Nebenbrett geweckt. » Yosef Porat « stand auf dem Schild neben der Schachuhr, den Namen hatte er noch nie gehört, aber der Mann kam ihm bekannt vor. Nur woher?

Als dieser sich schließlich in perfektem Deutsch in die Analyse seiner Partie gegen Czerniak einschaltete, fragte er ihn: »Kennen wir uns irgendwoher?«

Worauf der geheimnisvolle Porath lächelte: »Aber natürlich! Haben Sie etwa die Deutsche Meisterschaft 1931 in Swinemünde vergessen?« – »Ja, aber damals…« – »Damals hieß ich noch Foerder.«
