Dec-06-04 | | Knight13: Dose anybody knows who he is? There is no history of him that I could find online. I think he was a chess master. |

Dec-07-04 | | sneaky pete: <Knight13> Born October 31, 1836, in Galszecs (Hungary), died October 25, 1910, in Vienna. Merchant by profession. Played in at least 10 strong tournaments in Austria and Germany between 1873 and 1899. His best result was 1st place (shared with Blackburne and Englisch) in Wiesbaden, 1880, ahead of Schallopp, Mason, Bird, Winawer and 9 other masters, so you can count him as a chess master. |

Jan-27-14 | | Karpova: Information from the obituary:
The funeral was on October 27, 1911. He belonged to the best Austrian chess masters. Schwarz was born on October 31, 1836, in Galszecs, Hungary. He showed extraordinary interest in chess already in his youth and was soon regarded to be the strongest player in Arad, where he studied. But only in Budapest, where he moved to at the age of 20, he acquired this stubborness in bad and the uncomparable vigour in good positions, which made him a feared opponent everywhere. In 1872, he moved to Vienna where he joined the Vienna Chess Society and he remained a member for 38 years. He had many successes in local and national tournaments. At the international tournament in Wiesbaden (1880), he shared first place with Blackburne and Englisch (11.0/15). In matches he beat Minckwitz (+3 -2 =4) and Winawer (+2 -0 =2). Since then he participated in tournaments more rarely, but at the age of 73 he won a tournament of the Vienna Chess Club in 1909 against the strongest amateurs. Jun-15-14 | | zanzibar: <Karpova> your info really helps strengthen the pages on <CG>. <EDO> tracks his ratings here: http://www.edochess.ca/players/p366...
(A lot of people like <chessmetrics> here on <CG>, but I still like <EDO>'s presentation - and at the risk of endless debate - <EDO> also seems a little more conservative, ranking him only as #10 in 1880 with EDO rating 2555). Note this (from <EDO>): <Gaige has another Adolf Schwarz born around 1863.> |

Apr-09-16 | | zanzibar: What's the deal?
Lot's of good bio/history info under this player:
http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... but no games, and this parallel universe?
Hmm.... what's going on? |

Oct-31-16 | | TheFocus: Happy birthday, Adolf Schwarz. |

Jul-08-17 | | zanzibar: Those 1873 games against Anderssen were part of a match (unsure how many games). Schwarz won the match, and 100 Florins.
<IZ v100 N2584 (Jan 7, 1893) p15> This match seems neglected in most chess histories. |
