In 1878, he took 2nd, behind Louis Paulsen, in Frankfurt. In 1879, he took 3rd in Leipzig (1st DSB-Congress, Berthold Englisch won). In 1880, he tied for 1st-3rd with Joseph Henry Blackburne and Englisch in Wiesbaden. In 1880, he tied for 1st-3rd with Max Weiss and Johannes von Minckwitz in Graz. In 1880, he tied for 3rd-5th in Braunschweig. In 1882, he took 3rd in Vienna (Vincenz Hruby won). In 1882, he tied for 12-13th in Vienna (Wilhelm Steinitz and Simon Winawer won). The funeral was on October 27, 1911. He belonged to the best Austrian chess masters. Schwarz was born on October 31, 1836, in Galszecs, Hungary. He showed extraordinary interest in chess already in his youth and was soon regarded to be the strongest player in Arad, where he studied. But only in Budapest, where he moved to at the age of 20, he acquired this stubborness in bad and the uncomparable vigour in good positions, which made him a feared opponent everywhere. In 1872, he moved to Vienna where he joined the Vienna Chess Society and he remained a member for 38 years. He had many successes in local and national tournaments. At the international tournament in Wiesbaden (1880), he shared first place with Blackburne and Englisch (11.0/15). In matches he beat Minckwitz (+3 -2 =4) and Winawer (+2 -0 =2). Since then he participated in tournaments more rarely, but at the age of 73 he won a tournament of the Vienna Chess Club in 1909 against the strongest amateurs.
