I live in Owen Sound, ON and I have a very, very bad rating and I don't care. My favorite players are Alekhine, Botvinnik, Capablanca, Tchigorin, Shirov, Karpov, Spassky and of course Dolmatov. Among the "young" players I like Leko, Svidler and Radjabov (if you can call Leko and Svidler "young"). Theoretically, I enjoy the Ruy Lopez, Caro-Kann, King's Indian and Botvinnik Semi-Slav as Black ;) On chesstempo.com I am "refuter"'.

Nezhmetdinov's Law - "He who analyzes blitz games is stupid"

no one ever learned anything by resigning? sure they did...what about humility? honor? sportsmanship?

i am playing the Sicilian for life...to quote Viktor Korchnoi "is there not a resemblance between the Sicilian defender and the wrestler who begins the fight before he has climbed into the ring?" i'm totally that wrestler ;)

also, like korchnoi, i eat oatmeal every day in the hopes that i can stay mentally alert into my 70s

"When a player is not in a good mood and loses it means his technique is not on a high level" - Geller ?

I'm now an master (2300) on ICCF!
I'm also the Canadian Correspondence champion or 2016!

My goal for 2018 is to get a correspondence IM norm...and not to avoid the French at all.

refutor: no I don't personally know Daniel Freeman. I just played a lot of chess back in those days and enjoyed kibitzing (poorly) and the internet. I found this site and thought I was in heaven. Speaking of heaven I beat Stockfish on my iPhone 5 today in blitz for the first time. it played ...

   Dec-30-17 Carlsen vs Y Yu, 2017 (replies)

refutor: bad blunder by Carlsen, but i'm glad he busted out the Vienna Gambit. I played this myself (at a much lower level mind you) this summer and really enjoyed it.

refutor: it's easy to say that from behind a keyboard, but not as easy when you have mouths to feed, mortgages etc. I can imagine there were some tough decisions made

   Dec-30-17 King's Pawn Game (C44) (replies)

refutor: that's a good suggestion. I really don't care for the two knights (as White) so I have avoided the Evans Gambit in the past but maybe time has softened me on playing against that opening :)

refutor: well at least it beat the French twice, makes me happy
