Jan-14-13  Gely of the Horde: Cf. "A Selection of Games at Chess, Actually Played by Philidor and His Contemporaries", George Walker, 1835, p. 77.

"The very brilliant Gambit, which we now term the Allgaier Gambit, was first introduced to the notice of the players of that period by Mr. Cotter, and was accordingly denominated the Cotter Gambit." Not a bad footnote with which to be remembered.
