keypusher: Seems like nowadays if you play 1.e4 your king bishop can just say his prayers. Aren't bishops supposed to be better than knights? But people can't play Bxc6 fast enough.
Jan-21-15  utssb: <keypusher> It's just that you can avoid so much theory which contains unpleasant lines by capturing on c6.
Jan-21-15  dehanne: Nicolas Rossolimo would be proud.
Jan-21-15  Severin: Wow. This is brutal.

A battered Volkswagen or a battered Van Wely?

perfidious: Strange indeed to see White deviate from his nearly universal adoption of 1.d4.
Jan-22-15  Ulhumbrus: Black does not manage to make count her two permanent advantages- her bishop pair and central pawn superiority - because White manages to make count first his temporary advantages, his lead in development and greater space.

The game suggests that 6 Re1 threatens to gain space and a still greater lead in development by e5. This suggests 6...e5.

Jan-22-15  SimonWebbsTiger: @<perfidious>

Loek asked Magnus what would be the quickest way to get the bus back to Wijk? Play 1. e4 says Magnus, so he did!

Jan-30-15  Moszkowski012273: 22...Qc3 would of kept this position close to equal. Not a crushing defeat at all, just one pretty large mistake that white (of course) took advantage of.
