Richard Taylor: 39. a3 looks like a mistake. White tangled up with a Queen trap threatened etc

Good game with some tricky threats at the end. At first I thought the R was attacking g3 then I noticed there was a B inside.

But up to about move 35 or so both were more or less on an equal footing then Black found a way of breaking through and White went wrong as happens....

Jun-24-18  Ironmanth: Tricky stuff in this; thanks chessgames!

Emmental! Good one, <offramp>!

eternaloptimist: Thx for the complements guys!! <Richard Taylor> Indeed the a3 square ended up being a bad square for the ♕ after 40.♙bc5?. It also led to some lost tempos for Pelletier & a lost game as well. McNab set up a good combination threat at the end of the game w/ a ♘ fork together w/ a pin after 48.♔g3. It's definitely an interesting game!

Honza Cervenka: It was better to insert 41.cxd6 with idea 41...Qxd6 42.Qxa5 bxc3 43.c5. Black then can keep edge with 43...Rb5! 44.Bxb5 Qxc5 45.Rc2 Qxb5 46.Qxc3 Rc8 etc. but it is not so simple to find over the board, and white still has some practical chances to save the game.
