An Englishman: Good Evening: If Mike Nichols had directed Jack Nicholson in Five Easy Pieces, this would have been one of the greatest Game of the Day titles ever. Rather a wild game, too; at the end, 20.Qg3 threatens 21.Bg7, and only great material losses can stop the attack.
Dec-14-14  Moszkowski012273: I'm pretty sure white has nothing better than a draw if 19...Kxh7
Dec-14-14  celtrusco: <An Englishman><...at the end, 20.Qg3 threatens 21.Bg7...> Good morning from Argentina. I think is not possible 21-Bg7.
Dec-14-14  Topista: Probably the threat is Bh6.
Dec-14-14  dgbuckmeister: Yes, threatening Bxg7.
Dec-14-14  baraboir: I keep telling my under twelve team "remember to move out your queen's bishop.!.
Dec-14-14  celtrusco: < Topista: Probably the threat is Bh6.> and < dgbuckmeister: Yes, threatening Bxg7.> Agreed.
Dec-14-14  morfishine: Excellent pun that is a "Shining" example of good old fashioned hard work as it supplies "The Last Detail" referencing back to the subject and I daresay is about "As Good as it Gets"

Excellent game completely worthy as a GOTD. The entire combination is striking in the extreme

"You want me to take that bishop?"

"Yeah. I want you to take it between your knees!"

HeMateMe: Ed was pushed over the border. On my bucket list would be to play one game this well.
Dec-14-14  Amarande: "And this, kids, is why we don't play the Sicilian without memorising by rote a variation table the size of the United States Internal Revenue Code ..."

playground player: <Five Easy Pieces>--one of the world's great slapstick tragedies. Almost as inane as <The Jewel in the Crown>.
Dec-14-14  TheBish: Black would not have survived by accepting the bishop on h7:

19. Bxh7+! Kxh7 20. Qh5+ Kg8 21. Bh6! g6

(If 21...gxh6 22. Rxh6 and a quick mate. Or 21...Qf8 22. Raf1 Rd7 23. R1f4 g6 24. Qg5 Qe8 25. Rxb4, followed by Rh4 and Bg7.)

22. Rxg6+! fxg6 23. Qxg6+ Kh8 24. Bg5 Qg7 25. Bf6 Rd7 26. Rf4 Bf8 27. Bxg7+ Bxg7 28. Rh4+ Kg8 29. Qe8+ Bf8 30. Rf4... The End!

Dec-14-14  Moszkowski012273: <TheBish> ---- You are absolutely right, I was looking at Bg5 and not h6!
Dec-15-14  kevin86: White will win shortly...

An Englishman: Good Evening: Sorry about the typo; should have written "threatens 21.Bh6 and Bg7."
